Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) is set to replace the Peacock Creek bridge in Liberty County, with closure scheduled for July 23. The bridge replacement is part of efforts to reduce the number of deficient county bridges. The contractor has a permit to close Lewis Frasier Road/County Road (CR) 171 for up to 150 days and will manage a detour utilizing Lewis Frasier Road, US 84, and US 17. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.
The current bridge, located about five miles northwest of Riceboro, was built in 1971 and has weight restrictions. Most bridges in Georgia are owned locally, and Georgia DOT’s Low Impact Bridge Program and Local Bridge Replacement Program assist local governments in replacing deficient bridges.
