The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will implement a comprehensive closure at the intersection of State Route (SR) 316 and Barber Creek Road in Barrow County starting on April 30, 2025. This closure will facilitate the construction of a new bridge, ramps, and roundabouts.
Construction equipment and temporary barriers will be positioned in the median and along the shoulders of SR 316 at Barber Creek Road. Georgia DOT has advised alternative routes for traffic. For those traveling south of SR 316 from Barber Creek Road, the route is SR 53/Hog Mountain Road to SR 211/Bethlehem Road. Northbound travelers should take SR 211/Bethlehem Road to US 78/Atlanta Highway, proceeding to Barber Creek Road. Clear signage will be in place to guide drivers.
The closure will remain until the construction concludes by the first quarter of 2027. This project is part of improvements along SR 316, extending from Gwinnett County to Athens, Oconee County. It is bundled with projects at SR 211/Bethlehem Road for procurement and construction.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution in work zones. Variable Message Signs will alert the public to the construction work. Changes in schedule may occur due to weather conditions. For updates, contact 511 or visit 511ga.org.
