Georgia Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones said that law enforcement agencies confiscated large quantities of fentanyl, other narcotics, firearms, and cash in a multi-county Atlanta operation, removing dangerous drugs from local streets and targeting trafficking networks.

“This is great news for all Georgians,” said William Burton Jones. “The teams at GA Bureau of Investigation and FBI Atlanta work tirelessly to ensure our communities are safe and our citizens are protected from criminals and dangerous drugs. We are thankful for their courage and commitment to keeping drugs and criminals off our streets.”

According to Jones, he praised the coordinated effort by local, state, and federal agencies in Atlanta for their work in removing dangerous drugs from communities and ensuring residents’ safety.

Georgia authorities executed multi-county warrants resulting in the seizure of more than eight kilograms of fentanyl, other narcotics, firearms, and a hand grenade. This led to the arrest of ten individuals linked to a regional trafficking network. The operation was designed to disrupt local distribution and prevent further harm to residents.

U.S. enforcement agencies reported seizing approximately 47 million fentanyl tablets nationwide in 2025 through various interdiction operations. These efforts focused on international shipments and domestic distribution channels. Certain states, including Colorado, experienced notable increases in seizures.

Jones was born on April 25, 1979, in Jackson, Georgia. He competed in college athletics at the University of Georgia and held a seat in the state Senate for District 25 from 2013 until 2023. In 2022, he secured the lieutenant governor position as a Republican.
