Burt Jones, Georgia’s lieutenant governor, said he is praying for the two National Guard members shot near the White House and commended authorities for quickly apprehending the suspect.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the two National Guard heroes who were shot near the White House,” said Jones. “Thankfully, authorities acted quickly to bring the suspect into custody. Violence against those who protect our nation is unacceptable. We will keep these service members and their families in our prayers.”

Two National Guard members were shot near the White House in Washington, D.C., prompting a swift response from local and federal authorities. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident, which occurred in a high-security area near the presidential complex.

According to the U.S. Secret Service, the incident unfolded early Wednesday morning near Lafayette Square, just north of the White House. The shooting remains under investigation by federal and D.C. law enforcement.

Violence against service members and law enforcement has drawn increased scrutiny in recent years. According to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data, assaults against federal officers and members of the armed forces have risen steadily since 2020, prompting renewed calls for stronger protections.

Jones is Georgia’s lieutenant governor, a business leader, and former state senator known for his support of public safety, veterans, and law enforcement. He has consistently advocated for policies that strengthen security and honor those who serve the nation.
