CSX will close the railroad crossing on Main Street in Cartersville for five days beginning Tuesday, May 26, according to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The closure will affect Main Street between Museum Drive and Erwin Street while crews resurface the crossing. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this period.

The closure is scheduled from Monday, May 26 through Saturday, May 30. Weather conditions may affect the schedule. The department advises motorists to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed when traveling through work zones.

“Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.,” according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state. It employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion and focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs. The department operates under the State Transportation Board, serves the entire state through its transportation network, and works with local governments and federal agencies to advance transportation efforts, according to the official website.

Further details about this closure can be found in the organization’s press release.
