The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is nearing the completion of significant construction milestones at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project. The Miller Road bridge over I-20, which was closed and detoured in January 2025, is expected to reopen in the third quarter of 2025. Crews are finalizing paving activities for the new bridge, which will feature auxiliary lanes and improved mobility options for pedestrians and cyclists.
Simultaneously, work on the widened mainline I-20 bridge over Snapfinger Creek is also approaching completion. This project began in the first quarter of 2024 and represents a key milestone toward creating a safer roadway that meets regional demands. The new configuration will feature four lanes eastbound and westbound with modern shoulders, aimed at reducing congestion and improving travel efficiency.
Recently, Georgia DOT representatives updated Stonecrest citizens on project developments during a town hall meeting. Deion Williams, Deputy Project Manager at Georgia DOT, led a question-and-answer session following a presentation that outlined project benefits and milestones.
