In response to a high number of accidents, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will convert the two-way stop at the intersection of State Route 46 and Nevils Denmark Road in Bulloch County to an all-way stop. This change is scheduled for July 10, weather permitting. The intersection is located about one mile north of the SR 67 intersection on SR 46.
GDOT plans to complete several tasks before the switch. These include installing striping to remove left turn lanes onto Nevils Denmark Road, placing new stop signs and advance warning signs, and adding rumble strips. An “All Way” plate will be added to the bottom of each stop sign.
Message boards will notify drivers about the new all-stop condition on both approaches of SR 46. These boards will be installed two weeks before the switch and remain for one week after it is complete. GDOT crews will carry out these activities leading up to the official launch.
The Department encourages travelers in this area to drive attentively and be aware of the new stop conditions. For information on travel conditions on Georgia’s roads, citizens can call 511, a free service providing real-time traffic updates statewide.
