The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the opening of a new ramp connecting Interstate 285 southbound to I-20 eastbound. This development is scheduled to take place overnight from Friday, May 16 into Saturday, May 17, 2025. The construction is part of the broader I-285/I-20 East Interchange project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in one of the nation’s busiest interchanges.
The new ramp will begin earlier than the existing one and will carry vehicles over the interchange towards I-20 eastbound. At the end of this ramp, drivers will merge into a widened collector-distributor lane with options to exit onto Wesley Chapel Road or continue on I-20 eastbound.
Designed as a flyover ramp, it features a more gradual curve intended to reduce speed changes and potential crashes. It will maintain two lanes with an expanded inside shoulder. Temporary signage along I-285 alerts motorists about this upcoming change.
Weather conditions or other factors may alter the construction schedule. Traffic updates will be available through GA 511, Georgia DOT’s project website, and their social media channels.
