A new traffic signal is set to become operational on Tuesday, August 26, at the intersection of US 80 and Westside Boulevard, near Priya Circle east of the I-95 interchange (Exit 102) in Chatham County. The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) made the announcement, noting that a developer installed the signals and modified the median under a Commercial Driveway Permit to improve both mobility and safety at this intersection.

The department stated, “A developer under a Commercial Driveway Permit has installed and bagged traffic signals and modify the median to improve mobility and safety at this busy intersection. Message boards are in place to alert motorists of this new traffic signal location and activation date. This signal activation is weather contingent and subject to change.”

Drivers are being urged to pay close attention to new traffic control devices, signs, and posted speed limits as they adjust to changes at the site. “Motorists are reminded to pay special attention to traffic control devices, signs and posted speed limits as drivers become acclimated to the new signal,” according to Georgia DOT.

Additional guidance from transportation officials includes expecting possible delays, exercising caution through work zones, reducing speed, staying alert for workers, and using available resources for real-time updates. “Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app,” said DOT representatives.

Georgia DOT oversees planning, construction, and maintenance of state and federal highways along with other transportation initiatives across Georgia. “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation,” the agency stated.
