NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins expressed concerns in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the impending expiration of the 20% Small Business Deduction, a measure initially enacted in 2017. This deduction is crucial for small businesses in Georgia and is set to expire at the end of the year.
Loggins highlighted that Congress is currently voting on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which aims to make this deduction permanent. He emphasized, “If the deduction is allowed to expire, an estimated nine out of ten small businesses in Georgia will face a sudden 20% increase in their taxes. Many of these businesses are already operating on thin profit margins, especially as they contend with inflation, supply chain disruptions, and rising labor costs. For some, this tax hike could be the final blow, forcing them to shut their doors for good.”
He further stated that making this tax relief permanent would help alleviate financial pressure on small businesses and allow them to continue contributing significantly to local communities.
