Small business owners from across Georgia gathered at the Health Building in Atlanta on February 19 for the annual Small Business Day at the Capitol, an event co-hosted by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia.
The event allowed attendees to network with each other and meet elected officials to discuss issues facing small businesses in the state. The morning program featured remarks from several high-ranking state leaders, including House Speaker John Burns, House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration, Senate President Pro Tem Larry Walker III, and Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper.
Governor Brian Kemp addressed participants through a prerecorded video message, expressing appreciation for small business owners’ contributions to Georgia’s economy.
After the legislative update, small business owners were invited to speak directly with their legislators at the State Capitol. NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins said, “This was a chance for them to see first hand how things work in Atlanta and talk to lawmakers about the challenges facing their businesses.”
The day concluded with a legislative luncheon catered by Fickle Pickle, a Roswell-based NFIB member business. Loggins commented that this provided another opportunity for business owners to connect with lawmakers and share concerns related to their businesses and communities.
“On behalf of our members, I want to thank the speakers and legislators for taking time to engage with our members,” Loggins said. “Our members ensure the voice of small business will be heard in Atlanta.”
The National Federation of Independent Business – Georgia plays an active role in advocating for small business interests statewide. The organization regularly conducts surveys on small business optimism, promotes workforce development initiatives, supports tax relief efforts, and encourages regulatory transparency. Through events like Small Business Day as well as resources such as webinars and newsletters, NFIB Georgia works to connect its members and amplify their concerns among policymakers.
NFIB Georgia also endorses candidates who support small businesses and recognizes legislators aligned with its mission. By offering informational tools and opportunities for direct engagement between entrepreneurs and lawmakers, NFIB continues its advocacy work throughout Georgia.
