Nighttime lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 16 between mileposts 144 and 145 as part of ongoing work related to the US 280 Widening Project, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT). The closures will take place from Saturday, February 28 through Wednesday, March 4, nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.

The project is part of broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in Bryan County. Work includes widening roads, building roundabouts, constructing a new frontage road along I-16 (now named Genesis Drive), and creating a new interchange location on I-16. These improvements are intended to support access for new developments and address both current and future transportation needs in the area.

Officers will be present during the lane closures to assist motorists. Drivers should anticipate delays and are encouraged to exercise caution and reduce speed while traveling through work zones.

“Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones,” stated the advisory.

The schedule may change depending on weather conditions or other factors. For real-time updates on traffic conditions and construction status, drivers can call 511, visit https://511ga.org/, or use the Georgia 511 app. Additional details about the project can be found at https://arcg.is/0WnTLC0.
