The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced that contractors will implement nightly single lane closures on Interstate 16 between mileposts 144 and 146 as part of the I-16 at Old Cuyler Interchange project. The closures are scheduled from Monday, February 23 through Friday, February 27, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
Officers will be present during the closures to assist with traffic management. Drivers are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the work zones. The work schedule may change depending on weather conditions.
The I-16 at Old Cuyler Interchange project is included in a larger set of improvements for US 280, I-16 Frontage, and Old Cuyler Road Interchange. These improvements aim to provide better access to new developments in Bryan County and include widening roadways, constructing roundabouts, adding a new frontage road along I-16—now named Genesis Drive—and building a new interchange location on I-16. The goal is to address current and future transportation needs in the area.
Motorists are encouraged to check real-time updates about work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 app. Additional information about the project can be found at https://arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=us280-I16frontage-oldcuylerrd-0016618.
