The University of Georgia announced on May 8 that nine employees retired from the institution effective May 1.
The retirees represent a range of departments and have contributed many years of service to the university. Their work spanned areas such as research, library services, business operations, supply management, and outreach.
The list of retirees includes Esendugue (Greg) Fonsah, professor in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with over 25 years of service; Robin Harper, central supply associate at the College of Veterinary Medicine with nearly 11 years; David Higginbotham, research professional III at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources with more than 31 years; Andrea Horsman, outreach and communications manager in the Office of Research’s Owens Institute for Behavioral Research with almost 15 years; Guy Leach, librarian III in University Libraries’ collection development with over 25 years; Karen Materne, business operations professional at the College of Veterinary Medicine with 12 years; Timothy Smolko, librarian IV in University Libraries’ cataloging department with nearly 19 years; Claudia Venherm, research professional III at Skidaway Institute of Oceanography within the Office of Research for almost 27 years; and Jason G. Waters, materials handler III in mail and receiving services under Finance Division for almost 31 years.
These retirements reflect a significant transition across several university units. The departing staff members have collectively dedicated hundreds of years to supporting teaching, research programs, administrative functions and student services at UGA.
Their long-term commitment highlights their impact on campus life as well as academic progress within their respective fields. The university community recognizes these individuals for their contributions throughout their careers.
