To assist the Board of Commissioners in exercising the Commission’s regulatory authority and ensuring that its policy objectives are implemented, the Board of Commissioners is authorized by the Act to employ a staff which an Executive Secretary heads. The Executive Secretary and the Deputy Executive Secretary are appointed by the Commission and serve at the pleasure of the Board of Commissioners. The Commission’s Executive Secretary and staff are responsible, by delegated authority, to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Commission and to implement policies and procedures which carry out the Commission’s duties as detailed in the Act. For example, the Board of Commissioners has delegated to its staff the ability to commence investigations. The Board of Commissioners and its executive staff are further assisted by additional staff who are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Executive Secretary. This staff handles tasks ranging from responding to inquiries from the public, media, and regulated community to management of our E-filing system. Currently, the Board of Commissioners is served by 18 staff members with specialized knowledge in campaign finance law and regulations, forensic accounting, technology implementation, and public service administration.
