Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced overnight lane closures on Interstate 285 westbound as part of the ongoing I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane Project. The closures are scheduled to begin Friday, December 19 at 8 p.m. and will last until Saturday, December 20 at 6 a.m., weather permitting.

During this period, one right lane and the right shoulder between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive will be closed to allow contractors to safely install the remaining noise wall panels. This project is part of Georgia DOT’s broader efforts under the Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP), which aims to increase road capacity, improve freight movement, enhance safety, and reduce travel times across the state.

The I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project also includes extending the auxiliary lane between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive and reconstructing the Mt. Vernon Highway bridge over I-285.

Motorists are advised that “the exact time may change due to weather conditions. In addition to this notice, intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures may occur within the work zone. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.” Georgia DOT recommends drivers check real-time updates before traveling by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/, or by downloading the Georgia 511 app.

Additional information about the project can be found at https://arcg.is/0zTnXv0.

According to Georgia DOT, these improvements are designed to create additional capacity on major highways in order to facilitate smoother traffic flow throughout Georgia’s transportation network.
