Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors are set to implement overnight lane closures on Interstate 285 eastbound and westbound between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive. The closures will take place from Friday, July 25, through Sunday, August 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting. These closures are necessary for the removal and installation of overhead signs.
The project involves closing two left lanes and the left shoulder on I-285 in both directions between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive. However, eastbound and westbound closures will not occur simultaneously.
This initiative is part of the I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project, which aims to extend the auxiliary lane between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive and reconstruct the Mt. Vernon Highway bridge over I-285. It is one of several I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects under the MMIP program designed to enhance capacity, improve freight movement, provide operational improvements, increase safety, and reduce travel times.
Motorists should be aware that weather conditions may alter scheduled times. Additional intermittent traffic pacing as well as lane and ramp closures may occur within the work zone. Drivers are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, motorists can call 511 or visit 511ga.org or download the Georgia 511 app.
