Overnight lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 285 eastbound between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive as part of the I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The closures will take place from Friday, November 21 at 8 p.m. until Saturday, November 22 at 6 a.m., weather permitting.
During this period, two left lanes on I-285 eastbound in the specified area will be closed for painting overhead structures and removing traffic control devices. Motorists should expect traffic pacing and possible delays.
The I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project aims to extend the auxiliary lane between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive and includes reconstruction of the Mt. Vernon Highway bridge over I-285. This initiative is part of GDOT’s larger Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP), which seeks to increase capacity, improve freight movement, enhance safety, provide operational efficiencies, and reduce travel times across Georgia’s transportation network. More details about the project can be found at https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9e94d0b3e6ad43c1a82b89f5efde2b4a.
GDOT advises that closure times may change depending on weather conditions. Additional intermittent lane or ramp closures may occur within the work zone. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution, reduce speed through work areas, remain alert for workers, and plan for possible delays. For real-time updates on roadwork status or traffic conditions, travelers can call 511, visit https://511ga.org/, or use the Georgia 511 app.
