Lauren Zelt, Executive Director of Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT), said that their Georgia campaign, part of a $10 million national initiative, aims to expose predatory legal practices and support tort reform. This statement was made on PACT’s website on January 29.
“PACT is ready to hit the ground running,” said Zelt. “Stand up for small businesses that have been victimized by the personal injury system. Focused on delivering commonsense reforms to protect consumers.”
According to PACT, the organization launched a seven-figure TV and digital campaign in Georgia as part of their national initiative. They announced that Georgia’s legal climate inflates expenses for families and businesses, with studies showing a “tort tax” costs families over $5,000 annually and eliminates thousands of jobs. The campaign includes advertising, consumer education, and policy advocacy to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in the legal system.
PACT’s first advertisement on YouTube said: “Unfair laws in Georgia are driving up the cost of doing business and you’re paying for it,” referring to essentials like goods, transportation, and auto insurance. The ad urges people to “tell Georgia legislators to pass Common Sense tort reform.”
According to Axios Atlanta, the average annual cost of full auto insurance in Georgia increased by 20% from 2023 to 2024, surpassing the national rise of 15%, as reported by Insurify. In 2024, Georgians spent an average of $2,815 per year on auto insurance, which is higher than the national average of $2,313.
Zelt’s LinkedIn profile indicates that she leads efforts to reform predatory legal practices and advocates for consumer protections. She is also the founder of Zelt Communications.
