Peachtree Middle School sixth-grader Sarv Dharavane earned third place at the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee, according to a May 29 announcement from the DeKalb County School District. This marks his second consecutive year finishing among the nation’s top young spellers.

Dharavane competed against more than 240 spellers from across the country and internationally during the nationally televised event in Washington, D.C. His performance secured him a $15,000 cash prize and recognition as one of the elite competitors in the history of the competition.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Norman C. Sauce III said, “We are incredibly proud of Sarv and this outstanding accomplishment. His dedication, perseverance, and love of learning exemplify the excellence we strive to nurture in every DeKalb County School District student. Achieving a top-three national finish two years in a row is an extraordinary feat.”

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is recognized as one of America’s most respected academic competitions, focusing on literacy, vocabulary development, and academic achievement for students worldwide.

The district congratulated Dharavane on his achievement and stated it looks forward to celebrating his continued academic success.
