Governor Brian P. Kemp announced that Pilgrim’s, a major food company, plans to invest $400 million in Georgia by constructing a new prepared foods facility in LaFayette, Walker County. This development is expected to create over 630 jobs at full capacity.

“Georgia’s No. 1 industry of agriculture continues to drive growth with companies like Pilgrim’s creating quality jobs in communities like LaFayette,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “As our state’s economy continues to advance, we are excited to see these continued innovations and the opportunities they will bring for hardworking Georgians.”

Pilgrim’s currently supports around 7,500 jobs across Georgia and operates seven food production facilities within the state.

“Expanding the Pilgrim’s footprint in Georgia highlights our ongoing commitment to the region and our company’s long-term growth strategy,” stated Fabio Sandri, Pilgrim’s CEO. “This significant investment will allow further growth of our prepared foods business by expanding brands like Just Bare, Pilgrim’s, and Gold Kist.”

The facility will be located at the Walker County Business Park and will produce various fully cooked chicken products. Construction is set to begin in fall 2025 with hiring anticipated to start in 2027.

“We welcome Pilgrim’s to Walker County and LaFayette,” said Andy Arnold, Mayor of LaFayette and Chairman of the Walker County Development Authority. “Pilgrim’s has a wonderful history of positive community involvement.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Walker County,” noted Angie Teems, Chairwoman and CEO of Walker County Government.

Lori Dowdy from the Georgia Department of Economic Development worked on this project alongside local authorities.

“We are excited that Pilgrim’s continues to grow its footprint and drive economic opportunities here in Georgia,” commented GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson.
