Contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will begin replacing pipes on Spring Street in Macon-Bibb County, between Walnut and Mulberry Streets. The project is scheduled to start on Monday, August 11, 2025, and is expected to continue through the fall. Work will take place daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
During construction, one northbound lane and one southbound lane will remain open. Drivers are advised to be alert and reduce their speed when traveling through the area. The schedule may change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while passing through the work zone. For real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status, drivers can call 511, visit https://511ga.org/, or use the Georgia 511 app.
According to GDOT, the department plans, constructs, and maintains state and federal highways across Georgia. It also supports local governments with road maintenance and is involved in programs for bridges, waterways, public transit, railways, aviation, biking, and walking infrastructure. GDOT employs nearly 4,000 people who are committed to providing a transportation system that emphasizes innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. The department’s stated vision is “to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
