Planned Parenthood Votes announced on April 16 a $750,000 advertising campaign in Georgia Supreme Court races supporting Jen Jordan and Miracle Rankin while opposing incumbent Justices Sarah Hawkins Warren and Charlie Bethel, according to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
The ad campaign targets Warren and Bethel over their records in cases involving Georgia’s abortion restrictions, while promoting Jordan and Rankin as candidates who will “protect your rights and freedoms.”
Jordan and Rankin are challenging incumbents Warren and Bethel in officially nonpartisan Georgia Supreme Court races. Planned Parenthood Votes said it is spending $750,000 on advertising in support of the challengers and has described the incumbents as “politicians in robes,” according to the Georgia Recorder.
Rankin has tied her campaign to what she describes as a broader fight over abortion rights, saying her daughter has fewer rights than she did growing up and that she also has fewer rights today. Both Jordan and Rankin oppose Georgia’s abortion restrictions and have made that position part of their campaign messaging, according to Bolts Magazine.
Anti-abortion groups including Live Action, Students for Life, and CatholicVote are urging the U.S. Senate to extend a federal funding ban on Planned Parenthood before its July 4, 2026 expiration. The restriction was included in Trump’s 2025 budget bill, according to Fox News.
Greater Georgia Action is encouraging voters to review judicial candidates ahead of the May 19 election using its online guide. The group frames the nonpartisan court contests around whether judges should apply laws as written or use courts to reshape policy.
