A recent poll conducted by Cygnal and the American Principles Project (APP) indicates a decline in support for Senator Jon Ossoff among Georgia voters. The poll revealed that Ossoff’s approval rating fell to 38% when voters were informed of his vote allowing men to compete in women’s sports.
According to APP, both Senator Ossoff and Senator Raphael Warnock experienced a drop in support after it was disclosed that they voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This bill, which failed to pass in the Senate after passing in the House of Representatives, aimed to prohibit biological males from participating in female sports teams at schools.
The Center Square reports that Senators Warnock and Ossoff, both Democrats representing Georgia, opposed the “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.” The bill passed the U.S. House with a 219-206 vote, largely divided along party lines. However, it did not advance past a procedural hurdle in the Senate due to a 51-45 vote; it required 60 votes to proceed, necessitating support from at least seven Democrats alongside all Republicans.
Fox News highlighted findings from a NYT/Ipsos poll indicating that 67% of Democrats agreed with Republicans on prohibiting biological males from participating in female sports.
Georgia’s top state officials have expressed criticism towards Senators Ossoff and Warnock for their stance on this issue. Governor Brian Kemp said, “Men should not play in women’s sports. The people of Georgia know that and our senators should too.”
