The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is set to hold a public information meeting about the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. The meeting will take place on May 8, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center in Atlanta.
The meeting aims to provide updates on the project design concept without a formal presentation. Instead, attendees can visit various stations for information and speak with subject matter experts.
Donald Stull, Georgia DOT Post-Let P3 project manager, highlighted the significance of the interchange: “The I-285/I-20 West Interchange is a heavily traveled interchange currently ranked as the 10th most congested interchange nationally by the American Transportation Research Institute.” He added that the project’s primary goal is to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes.
Proposed improvements include reconstructing and widening interstates and ramps, adding lanes along I-20 in Fulton and Cobb counties, and removing left-hand entrances and exits. Recent design updates aim to make the interchange more compact while reducing environmental impacts and noise.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025 with substantial completion by 2030. For more details, visit https://0013918-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/.
Motorists are advised of potential delays due to intermittent traffic pacing and lane closures within work zones. Real-time updates are available through Georgia’s 511 service.
