Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services announced on May 23 that it will lead a Mass Casualty Incident Night Training Exercise at 1300 Southlake Circle in Morrow. The exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.

The purpose of the event is to simulate a large-scale emergency medical triage incident involving about 45 victims and a suspected dangerous device. This training aims to improve coordination, communication, incident command, patient triage, and emergency response among multiple public safety agencies during complex situations.

Participating organizations include Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services, Clayton County Police Department, Clayton County Bomb Squad, Clayton County Emergency Management, Clayton County 911 Communications, City of Morrow Fire Department and Police Department, Forest Park Fire Department and Police Department, as well as Forest Park Emergency Management.

“This type of training is critical to ensuring our public safety agencies are prepared to respond together during large-scale emergencies,” said Fire Chief and EMS Director Tim Sweat. “By training in realistic conditions with our law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, and dispatch partners, we strengthen our ability to protect lives and serve our community when it matters most.”

Officials said residents or visitors may notice increased public safety activity in the area during these dates but confirmed there is no threat to the public as this is only a planned drill.

Clayton County has seen changes in its school enrollment recently; enrollment dropped by 2.5% for the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year. In total there were about 61,644 students enrolled at county schools that year according to the Georgia Department of Education. Black students made up the largest group at local schools (68%), followed by Hispanic students (24%), multiracial students (3%), and white students (2%) according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services stated it remains committed to preparedness efforts and interagency cooperation.
