The railroad crossing at State Route 52 in Gilmer County will be removed starting Tuesday, September 2, beginning at 9 a.m., according to an announcement from transportation officials. The work is scheduled to conclude by Thursday, September 4, if weather conditions allow.
During the removal process, traffic on State Route 52 will be detoured onto Depot Street before returning to the highway. Motorists are advised that delays are expected and are urged to use caution and reduce speed while passing through the work zone.
Officials recommend checking real-time updates on project status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 app. Maintenance teams and project crews continue essential roadwork operations with sanitary practices as prescribed by health agencies.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.”
