The Georgia Department of Natural Resources announced on May 18 that registration is now open for the John Pafford Memorial Kids Fishing Event, set to take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13.
The event is held each year on Georgia’s Free Fishing Day and aims to introduce children to saltwater fishing while teaching basic angling skills and conservation. Open to children ages 5 to 12, the free event provides instruction, bait, tackle, refreshments, and opportunities for young participants to fish in a safe environment. No fishing license is required.
Space at the event is limited to 100 children, and advance registration is necessary. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, with registered participants required to arrive by 9:30 a.m.
“This event is a great opportunity for kids to experience fishing firsthand and learn more about Georgia’s coastal resources,” said Brooke Vallaster, CRD’s marine educator. “We look forward to welcoming families for a fun morning of fishing, learning, and family fun.”
The event honors John Pafford’s legacy as a longtime marine biologist whose work inspired youth engagement in coastal conservation efforts through fishing programs.
