State Representative Akbar Ali (D-Lawrenceville) has been appointed to three House committees for the remainder of the 2025-2026 legislative term. House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) selected Ali to serve on the Creative Arts and Entertainment, Economic Development and Tourism, and Urban Affairs committees.

“I want to thank Speaker Burns for appointing me to serve on these impactful committees for the remainder of the 2026 legislative term,” said Rep. Ali. “These committees play a vital role in supporting Georgia’s entertainment industries, strengthening economic development and tourism and addressing the complex challenges facing our metropolitan communities. I’m honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to deliver meaningful results for the people of Georgia.”

Ali was sworn into office on December 18, 2025, after winning a special election held to fill the seat previously occupied by former State Representative Shelly Hutchinson (D-Snellville).

Speaker Jon Burns, who is a Republican representing Georgia’s 159th House District since his election in 2005, made these committee appointments following Rep. Ali’s induction.
