State Representative Chas Cannon of Moultrie has been elected to the Executive Council of the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC). The election took place during the 22nd Annual NASC Sportsman-Legislator Summit in Memphis, Tennessee.
Rep. Cannon shared his perspective on outdoor activities and conservation. “I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and developed a love of the outdoors as a result,” said Rep. Cannon. “It’s something we need to protect so that we can continue to hunt and fish – and also provide a place for our younger generations to have the same opportunity. I look forward to doing that as a part of Executive Council and hope to be able to contribute where I can.”
NASC was established in 2004 by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) with the aim of advancing hunting, angling, recreational shooting, trapping, and professional fish and wildlife management at state legislatures across the country. The organization includes more than 2,250 legislators from all 50 states who are members of their respective state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses.
The Executive Council works closely with CSF staff, offering insight from their home states about legislative trends and caucus needs. This helps CSF provide support for state-level efforts related to sportsmen’s issues. The council also assists in promoting pro-sportsmen ideas and encourages information sharing among state caucuses, conservation groups, and related industries.
The main objective of the NASC Executive Council is to advise both CSF and NASC while serving as leaders in sporting-conservation policy.
Burns was elected to represent Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005 after Ray Holland previously held the seat.
