State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) has introduced a series of legislative proposals intended to address affordability and economic mobility for residents in Georgia. The proposed measures include House Bill 1016, House Bill 1017, House Bill 1018, as well as House Resolutions 1046 and 1047.
Kendrick stated, “Ever since I was elected in 2010, I have focused on pocketbook issues. So, promoting and filing legislation on affordability and economic mobility is nothing new with me. I will continue this year with three more bills.”
House Bill 1016 focuses on property rights by allowing any individual within a subdivision to request the removal of squatters from premises. The related constitutional amendment is addressed in House Resolution 1046.
House Bill 1017 proposes that real property acquired by certain business enterprises be assessed at its full fair market value rather than the current rate of forty percent. This change would also require a constitutional amendment, which is covered under House Resolution 1047.
Additionally, House Bill 1018 seeks to exempt sales of clothing and school-related supplies from state sales and use taxes during August each year.
Jon G. Burns, a Republican who represents Georgia’s 159th House District after being elected in 2005, continues his service in the state legislature following his predecessor Ray Holland.
