State Representative Floyd Griffin (D–Milledgeville) is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the annual Emancipation Day Program on January 1, 2026. The event will take place at noon at Wesley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Rep. Griffin emphasized the ongoing importance of Emancipation Day, stating, “Emancipation Day is not just a commemoration of the past. It is a reminder of the duty we carry — to stand up, show up and protect the promise of freedom for those who will come after us. Our ancestors fought for it. Now we must do our part.”
This year’s program theme is “Boots on the Ground: Protecting the Freedom Our Ancestors Prayed For.” The event is open to the public, and Rep. Griffin has invited residents from Baldwin County and Middle Georgia to attend.
Burns, a Republican, has represented Georgia’s 159th House District since 2005, succeeding Ray Holland.
The Emancipation Day Program will be held at Wesley Chapel AME Church located at 425 Bell Ave SE in Milledgeville.
