State Representative Kasey Carpenter (R-Dalton) has been appointed as vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, according to an announcement from House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington).

“I am humbled by the opportunity provided by Speaker Burns and House leadership to serve as vice chair of the House Appropriations Committee,” said Rep. Carpenter. “I look forward to learning from and working alongside Chairman Hatchett and the other subcommittee chairs. As always, our goal is to ensure that taxpayers’ hard-earned money is spent wisely and efficiently.”

The House Appropriations Committee is responsible for drafting Georgia’s amended and general fiscal year budgets for state agencies and departments. The committee also reviews legislation that significantly affects state revenue or expenditures.

Jon Burns, a Republican, was elected in 2005 to represent Georgia’s 159th House District, succeeding Ray Holland.
