State Representative Lynn Heffner (D-Augusta) has resigned from the Georgia House of Representatives, effective immediately. She cited constitutional residency requirements as the reason for her departure after her primary residence was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene.
Heffner, who began serving in 2022 and represented House District 130, said in a statement: “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of House District 130, which has been one of the greatest honors of my life. However, the ongoing discourse surrounding the rebuilding process has reached an impasse, creating uncertainty that has led me to make the difficult but necessary decision to step aside. My commitment to transparency, integrity and accountability remains steadfast.”
During her time in office, Heffner served on several committees including Defense & Veterans Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, and Intragovernmental Coordination. She was also appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to two study committees focused on legitimation processes and alternatives to opioids for pain management.
“This is not a farewell to public service,” Heffner added. “I will continue advocating for military families, veterans, the elderly and underserved communities across Georgia.”
Jon Burns is a Republican who was elected to represent Georgia’s 159th House District in 2005 after Ray Holland.
