State Representative Jordan Ridley from Woodstock has expressed his support for the final approval of House Bill 845. This legislation aims to establish a position for an internal auditor within the Cherokee County Board of Education, a bill he personally sponsored.
Rep. Ridley stated, “I deeply appreciate my Senate colleagues for pushing HB 845 forward. This legislation is a powerful step toward greater transparency in our school district budgets. Our community deserves accountability, and this bill would help ensure that every dollar is tracked and spent where it matters most.”
The bill stipulates that the internal auditor must be a certified internal auditor or a certified public accountant with at least five years of experience. The nomination for this role would be made by members of the Georgia General Assembly, who represent portions of the school district. The auditor would have access to all necessary school system records to perform audits and would conduct performance and financial audits at one-year and five-year intervals.
House Bill 845 is now awaiting consideration by Governor Brian Kemp. The entire text of the bill is available at https://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/71647.
