State Representative Robert Dickey was appointed on Apr. 10 by House Speaker Jon Burns to serve on the Agriculture & Rural Development Committee of the Council of State Governments Southern Office for a two-year term ending December 31, 2027.
This appointment places Dickey, who chairs the House Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee, in a role where he will work with leaders from across the southern United States. The position allows him to represent Georgia’s interests and exchange ideas aimed at strengthening rural communities and supporting agricultural development.
“I am honored to be appointed by Speaker Burns to serve on the Agriculture & Rural Development Committee of the Council of State Governments Southern Office,” said Rep. Dickey. “This opportunity will allow me to collaborate with leaders from across the South, share Georgia’s initiatives and bring back innovative ideas that will strengthen our rural communities and agricultural economy. I look forward to continuing to advance policies that support our farmers, promote economic growth and enhance the quality of life for all Georgians.”
The Council of State Governments Southern Office was established in 1947 as a member-driven organization and is currently the largest among four regional offices under CSG. Its mission is focused on promoting intergovernmental cooperation among its fifteen member states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
CSG South hosts an annual event known as the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC), which is described as the largest regional gathering for legislative members and staff. The conference features programs addressing both ongoing issues and new developments in state government policy.
Burns has served as a Republican representative since his election in 2005 for Georgia’s 159th House District after replacing Ray Holland according to official records.
