State Representative Robert Flournoy, Jr. (D-Hampton) has issued a statement marking the three-year anniversary of Amber Nichole Thurman’s death. Flournoy reflected on Thurman’s legacy and the impact her passing has had on efforts to improve healthcare access.
“Three years later, we remain heartbroken by the tragic and preventable loss of Ms. Amber Nicole Thurman, not just a name, but someone I knew personally. Amber was a nurse who spent her career helping to save lives, she was a mother who was dedicated to raising her son and she was a daughter who was taken away from her family far too soon. No family should ever have to endure this kind of grief, and no life should be cut short because of barriers to essential healthcare. Amber’s passing is a reminder of the devastating consequences when laws put politics over people’s lives. This tragedy did not have to happen, and we must honor her memory by working tirelessly to change the laws that failed her so that no other family is forced to suffer the same pain. Today, we remember Amber as the strong woman who has inspired so many people to fight for change, and we continue to pray for her family, friends and all those who loved her. Her name will not be forgotten.”
Amber Nichole Thurman worked as a nurse and was remembered by Flournoy as someone committed both professionally and personally to caring for others.
