State Representative Saira Draper, a Democrat from Atlanta, has been appointed to the House Regulated Industries Committee for the remainder of the 2025-2026 legislative term. The appointment was made by House Speaker Jon Burns, a Republican from Newington. Draper fills a vacancy created by the resignation of former Representative Shelly Hutchinson earlier this year.
“I’m grateful for this new appointment and for the opportunity to join the House Regulated Industries Committee for the remainder of this legislative term,” said Rep. Draper. “This committee oversees legislation that directly impacts many Georgians – from professional licensing to medical marijuana and hemp policies – the committee’s scope is extensive. I look forward to building on the important work carried out by my predecessor and contributing to the committee’s efforts to ensure Georgia’s regulatory landscape supports transparency, fairness and the best interests of our communities.”
The House Regulated Industries Committee is responsible for overseeing how companies and professionals in sectors such as alcohol, tobacco, construction, cosmetology, funeral services, and others operate within Georgia. The committee also manages occupational licensure and certification related to these industries.
Jon Burns was elected in 2005 as a Republican representative for Georgia’s 159th House District, succeeding Ray Holland.
