Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) continues its road work in Southeast Georgia, with construction and maintenance projects scheduled from July 19 to July 25. Motorists are advised to be cautious, reduce speed in work zones, and watch for workers.

Traffic interruptions will occur on several interstates including I-95, I-16, and I-516. Specific areas affected include the St. Marys River Bridge in Camden County, where overnight lane closures will take place due to repairs. In Chatham County, concrete footer pouring for signs will cause nightly single lane closures on I-95 at MP 90 – 91.

Bridge maintenance and rehabilitation efforts are also ongoing. The Ogeechee River area on I-95 in Chatham County will see northbound and southbound lane closures during weekends. Similarly, bridge jacking and structural repairs are planned under the Chatham Parkway Bridge over I-16.

Resurfacing projects are scheduled across various counties such as Liberty, Wayne, Telfair, Montgomery, Bulloch, and Screven Counties. Daily or nightly lane closures are expected as part of these operations.

Additionally, bridge construction and rehabilitation works continue at locations like US 280 in Toombs County and SR 204 at Forest River in Chatham County.

Motorists should expect delays due to other traffic interruptions including road widening on SR 25/Burnsed Blvd in Chatham County and passing lane construction on SR 32 in Bacon/Coffee Counties.

The GDOT advises checking real-time traffic conditions via their website or app before traveling through these areas. The department remains committed to improving Georgia’s transportation system through safety-focused initiatives.

“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” a spokesperson stated. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail… And we help local governments maintain their roads.”
