Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road work in Southeast Georgia from July 12 to July 18. This will affect several major interstates, including I-95, I-16, and I-516. Motorists are urged to reduce speed and remain cautious in work zones.
Interstate 95 will see various closures for repairs and maintenance. Camden County’s St. Marys River Bridge will have overnight lane closures, while Liberty/Bryan Counties’ Jones Rd. Overpass will undergo asphalt resurfacing with nightly lane closures from 7 PM to 6 AM. Chatham County will experience northbound and southbound lane closures at MP 90 – 91 for concrete footer pouring.
Interstate 16 in Chatham County will have daily single left lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge for structural repairs. The bridge itself is closed to all traffic until July 19.
Interstate 516’s bridge maintenance between Louisville Rd and Tremont Rd in Chatham County continues with nightly lane closures.
Other significant projects include bridge replacements on Lewis Frasier Rd in Liberty County, Antioch Church Rd over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County, and Post Rd in Jeff Davis County with detours provided.
Resurfacing efforts are also underway on SR 38/SR119 in Liberty County, SR27 in Telfair County, SR117 across Telfair County Line Rd., among others.
Motorists can expect delays due to these works and are advised to stay informed about real-time traffic conditions via GDOT’s resources like the Georgia 511 app or website.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” a spokesperson said. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs.”
