Rome High School’s Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2026 are planned for Saturday, May 23, at Barron Stadium, with the procession set to begin at 8:45 a.m., according to an announcement from Rome City Schools on May 21.
The event is significant as it marks the completion of high school education for graduating students and brings together families and staff in celebration. Rome City Schools reports a graduation rate of 95.7% and offers advanced academic programs such as Advanced Placement courses and career-technical education, according to the official website.
Organizers said they are monitoring weather conditions due to a forecast that calls for possible rain on Saturday. The district has prepared a weather plan designed to ensure safety during the ceremony. “The plan is to hold graduation as scheduled on Saturday morning. If a storm passes through the area, we could implement a weather delay and ask guests to return to their vehicles until conditions clear. We want to ensure that everyone is safe, and we will be actively monitoring weather conditions throughout the ceremony. Updates will be shared through official Rome City Schools social media channels,” officials said in their statement.
If severe weather prevents commencement from taking place on Saturday morning, backup times have been established: Saturday evening at 7 p.m., or Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., both at Barron Stadium. Guests are encouraged by organizers to arrive early due to parking needs, security screening, and seating arrangements; gates will open at 7:30 a.m.
Security measures include metal detectors at all entry points along with enforcement of clear bag procedures during entry into Barron Stadium. Rome City Schools operates public elementary, middle, and high school programs in Rome, Georgia under policies set by its Board of Education; it emphasizes academics, arts, athletics and provides technology resources for K-12 students across multiple schools with virtual learning options as well as support services for special education and gifted students—all according to the official website.
The district said: “We can’t wait to celebrate the Rome High School Class of 2026 and appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work to provide a safe and memorable graduation ceremony for our students and families.”
