John Woodbury, a 35-year-old resident of Roswell, Georgia, has been sentenced to seventeen months in prison. He pleaded guilty to transmitting threats against then-FBI Director Christopher Wray. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Sarah E. Geraghty and includes three years of supervised release following his prison term.

U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg stated, “My office has zero tolerance for threats against law enforcement officers.” He emphasized that such threats undermine society’s foundation and will be met with appropriate punishment.

FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown remarked on the importance of public servants performing their duties without fear for their lives. He noted that Woodbury’s sentencing reflects the FBI’s commitment to holding accountable those who threaten public officials.

The charges stem from an incident on June 7, 2023, when Woodbury posted a threatening message on 4chan.org directed at Director Wray. In his post, he included Wray’s purported home address and made violent threats against him and his family.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to Woodbury’s conviction for transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. He entered a guilty plea on April 18, 2025.
