The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is set to address safety concerns at the intersection of US Route 441 and State Route 112 in Wilkinson County by constructing a roundabout. This project aims to reduce vehicle conflict points at this location.

Originally scheduled for bidding in August 2026, the LET date was moved forward to April 2025, advancing the timeline by 16 months. District Engineer Corbett Reynolds expressed gratitude for the expedited schedule, stating, “I appreciate GDOT’s efforts in advancing this project and want to thank everyone involved in making it possible.”

F.S. Scarborough, LLC has been awarded the $2.9 million contract for this project and has received the notice to proceed. While a specific work schedule is yet to be established, pre-construction activities are underway. Motorists can expect to see construction crews on-site soon.

The existing intersection will be transformed into a multilane roundabout with US 441 featuring two-lane approaches and departures, while SR 112 will have single-lane approaches and departures. Traffic flow will be maintained throughout the construction period.

Currently controlled by a two-way stop on SR 112, the intersection has seen previous safety enhancements such as rumble strips, “STOP ahead” signs, and flashing lights implemented by Georgia DOT.

The roundabout’s completion is projected for summer 2026, though this may change based on weather conditions. Reynolds encourages caution during construction: “I look forward to construction starting soon and encourage drivers to exercise caution while traveling through the intersection during the construction period.”

Drivers should anticipate delays and are advised to drive carefully through work zones. Real-time updates on traffic conditions can be accessed via phone at 511, online at 511ga.org, or through the Georgia 511 app.
