Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of US Route 441 and State Route 112 in Wilkinson County, Georgia, is set to begin soon. The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) aims to enhance safety by reducing vehicle conflict points at this location.
Originally planned for bidding in August 2026, the project has been expedited to April 2025. “I appreciate GDOT’s efforts in advancing this project and want to thank everyone involved in making it possible,” said District Engineer Corbett Reynolds.
The $2.9 million contract has been awarded to F.S. Scarborough, LLC, which has received the notice to proceed. Although a work schedule is not yet established, pre-construction activities are underway. Drivers can expect to see crews on-site in the coming months.
The existing intersection will be reconstructed into a multilane roundabout with US 441 featuring two-lane approaches and departures, while SR 112 will have single-lane approaches and departures. Traffic will be maintained on-site during construction.
Currently controlled by a two-way stop on SR 112, the intersection previously had several safety measures implemented by Georgia DOT, including rumble strips, “STOP ahead” signs, and flashing lights.
Completion of the roundabout is expected by summer 2026, though weather conditions may affect this timeline. “I look forward to construction starting soon and encourage drivers to exercise caution while traveling through the intersection during the construction period,” Reynolds added.
Drivers should anticipate delays and are advised to reduce speed and stay alert for workers in the area. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511 or visit 511ga.org.
