The City of Savannah Municipal Archives Department announced on May 7 that residents are invited to participate in its first Memory Collection Drop-In Day of 2026. The event, part of the ongoing Savannah Community Memory Project, will take place Friday, May 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Archives & History room at City Hall.

The initiative aims to encourage community members to contribute personal stories and artifacts related to Savannah’s history and culture. Organizers say the project is designed for participants “to share YOUR Savannah story.” Residents are encouraged to bring keepsakes such as photographs, postcards, building plans, scrapbooks, or newsletters for scanning. In addition, attendees may choose to record their memories on camera or participate in a traditional oral history interview.

Special focus will be given to items and stories about community events, local leaders, landmarks, neighborhoods, and food traditions in Savannah. Those unable to attend in person can submit their stories through the Share Your Story portal at www.Savannahga.gov/YourHistory. Additional drop-in dates have been scheduled for July 8 (10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), October 8 (9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.), and December 8 (10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.).

Residents seeking more information or wishing to reserve a time slot can contact the Municipal Archives by emailing Archives@Savannahga.gov or calling 912-651-4212.

The City of Savannah manages its financial operations through its City Manager—including budget preparation and financial reporting—according to the official site. The city promotes healthy neighborhoods and maintains public spaces as part of efforts aimed at fostering vibrant community life; it also manages a $425 million budget with around 2,400 employees under the direction of its chief executive officer—the City Manager—according to both the government operations page and official city management site.

In addition to these initiatives focused on quality of life and civic engagement, Savannah includes facilities such as the Civic Center complex featuring an arena with seating for up to 9,700 people along with theater space according to its historical site page.
