Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced on May 5 that the first in-person Georgia Businesses Against Trafficking (GBAT) training will be held on May 12 in Atlanta.
The event is scheduled as Atlanta prepares to host the World Cup, a time when officials say awareness of human trafficking is especially important. The initiative aims to provide businesses with tools to identify and report potential trafficking activities.
“As Atlanta prepares to host the World Cup, it is important our businesses know the signs of human trafficking,” said Secretary Raffensperger. “I am proud to work with our GBAT partners to battle this evil industry and show that human trafficking is not welcome in Georgia.”
The half-day training will run from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m., featuring sessions led by GBAT partners Wellspring Living and Street Grace, along with participation from the Atlanta Police Department. While designed for businesses, organizers said the general public may also attend free of charge.
“I encourage any interested business to attend this important training, so we can put an end to the scourge of human trafficking in Georgia,” Raffensperger said.
GBAT was created by Secretary Raffensperger as an effort to equip businesses with knowledge about spotting and reporting human trafficking. Members have access to free materials and informational sessions.
