ATLANTA (July 18, 2025)—Sen. Josh McLaurin will hold a press conference on July 22 regarding the continued detention of journalist Mario Guevara by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Guevara has been in ICE custody since June 18, despite having resided legally in the U.S. for over two decades.
The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Georgia State Capitol’s South Steps and is open to the public. Speakers will include Giovanni Diaz, managing partner of Diaz & Gaeta and Guevara’s lawyer; Katherine and Oscar Guevara, Mario Guevara’s children; Katherine Jacobsen from the Committee to Protect Journalists; and Nora Benavidez from Free Press.
