Today, it was announced that Senate Bill 93, the first piece of legislation by Sen. RaShaun Kemp (D–Atlanta), has been signed into law by Governor Brian P. Kemp. This law designates the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to create rules for reading instruction based on scientific evidence.
Sen. Kemp also expressed gratitude to Gov. Kemp for supporting the law, stressing, “Literacy is the foundation of all learning, and this law guarantees we are doing everything we can to give our students the strongest start possible.”
Senate Bill 93 mandates the Professional Standards Commission to develop rules that support effective, research-based reading instruction within teacher preparation programs.
