The Senate Study Committee on Combating Chronic Absenteeism in Schools will hold its third meeting on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The session will take place at the State Capitol in Atlanta and is open to the public. The hearing will also be live-streamed on the Georgia General Assembly website.
The committee, chaired by Sen. John F. Kennedy (R–Macon), was established through Senate Resolution 217. Its purpose is to investigate the underlying causes and long-term effects of chronic absenteeism among students in Georgia. The committee is composed of members from both political parties and collaborates with educators, parents, policymakers, and community leaders. It aims to identify effective strategies, including early intervention and targeted support programs, to address absenteeism and promote student achievement.
