The Senate Committee on Education and Youth, led by Sen. Billy Hickman (R–Statesboro), will hold a joint meeting with the House Committee on Education on November 14, 2025. The session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Georgia State Capitol in Room 341.

The meeting will focus on providing an update regarding Senate Resolution 237, which was approved during the 2025 Legislative Session. This resolution called for the Professional Standards Commission (PSC) to work with several state agencies—including the Department of Education, Department of Early Care and Learning, Teachers Retirement System of Georgia, Office of Student Achievement, University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, and Georgia Student Finance Commission—as well as education associations. The goal is to develop recommendations aimed at supporting the state’s K-12 education workforce and strengthening the pipeline for teachers and school leaders.

Committee members are expected to hear about the PSC’s progress so far, early findings from their collaboration efforts, and planned next steps as they prepare recommendations for both the governor and the General Assembly.

Members of the public are invited to attend or view a live stream through the Georgia General Assembly website. Media representatives interested in covering the event are asked to confirm their attendance ahead of time by contacting SenatePressInquiries@senate.ga.gov.

Sen. Billy Hickman chairs the Senate Committee on Education and Youth and represents Georgia’s 4th Senate District.
